Looking for musicians and performing artists to do a FUND RAISER for the victims of Hurricane Irene in Upstate, NY Catskill Region. PUBLIC MEDIA did not show the tremendous devastation in that area. Here are a couple of videos...take a look, and SHOW YOU CARE! http://lnk.ms/TYzMF http://lnk.ms/TYzMH If you are interested in doing something, please contact me at upstatenyrelief1@yahoo.com THANK YOU, Mary P.S. The authors of these films told me that the films don't begin to show the enormous damage. Over 140,000 acres ruined. Over 1,000 families without homes. People still stranded because roads and bridges washed away. Jobs and businesses washed away. Prattsville..gone!

The Story of Alexander Aan: An Indonesian Atheist Fears for His Life

Alexander Aan posted “God does not exist” on his Facebook page—and was beaten and arrested. Learn how you can help.

        By Matthew Bulger

America may have its own issues with non-believers and secularism, but atheistic Americans should be thankful that they likely won’t ever have to experience the abuse that Alexander Aan has been subjected to in the past few months.

Alexander is something of a rarity in Indonesia—a non-believer. While the Indonesian constitution does guarantee freedom of religion, the government only recognizes six official religions (Islam, Protestantism, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism), and Indonesian law requires that every citizen hold an ID card that identifies that person with one of the six official religions. Almost every Indonesian identifies with some faith, with 87% of Indonesians identifying themselves as Muslim, 7% as Protestant, 3% as Catholic, 2% as Hindu, and 0.8% as Buddhist.

Unfortunately, Indonesia does not recognize agnosticism or atheism, and blasphemy is illegal, often carrying at least a 5-year jail sentence for offenders. Alexander, who works as a civil servant in Indonesia, found this out the hard way when he posted “God does not exist” on his Facebook page.

Acerca de mí:

I have an entrepreneurial spirit, and believe that we can succeed in doing almost anything, provided we don’t fear reaching beyond the limitations we put on ourselves. I have learned that dreams are the sparks of inspiration that fuel our successes, friends are found around the world…if only you reach out, and that love is what fortifies the human spirit to continue on, even when devastating circumstances beyond our control strike us. Beauty can be found if only you open your eyes to see: it can be the bud on a tree, the waves in the ocean, the flowers along the roadside, the song of a bird, a smile on someone’s face, or the sound of your voice. Life is what you make of it…and I try to make each moment count, because that is what brings me happiness. I believe in human rights, because all humans deserve the birthright of respect and dignity, water, food, medical treatment, a voice to make known their needs and desires, security and amity, freedom of religion, and love. I believe that in order for any relationship to succeed with your significant other, your child, your friends and acquaintances, or your colleagues at work, you must first respect and trust yourself, then you will be able to respect and trust others! I love many types of music, candle lit dinners, sitting by a fireside, long walks on the beach, hiking in the mountains, nature and animals. Moreover, I love to go dancing, a play or a movie, a museum, travel, and laugh – yes, I have a good sense of humor too! I don’t like people who are hypocrites, biased, manipulative, dishonest, exploiters, narcissists, vicious, or cheaters. My business career has spanned many disciplines: from fashion, public relations, investment banking, to humanities. I am now a highly motivated writer, working on a satirical novel whose main characters are an Elizabethan Ghost and a contemporary writer. The story is power-packed with devious characters, a primordial to modern-day conspiracy, and romance. I also write poetry, and have written several modern-mythological screenplays with my Swedish partner, Goran S. Jonasson, Studio Salta Vandarnus Hus. Additionally, I am filming the first play and making film shorts, doing some acting and voice-over, and from time-to-time I promote others, as well as orchestrate fund raising events. I am a true romantic who will never give up the sanguinity that is within me, as that’s what makes me the individual that I am.

I’d like to meet people from around the world who share analogous interests.
