Saxophonist and composer from Brooklyn, New York, Loren Stillman is hailed as a writer and a stylist that has found a previously unoccupied slot in the jazz spectrum. (Jazz Review UK 2004) Stillman has been recognized as one of todays truly original creative voices by publications such as The New York Times, Downbeat Magazine, Jazziz and Jazz-Times as well as by National Public Radio. A former student of both Lee Konitz and David Liebman, he has performed and recorded throughout the United States and Europe and Japan with his own ensembles, and with those led by Charlie Haden, Carla Bley, Paul Motian, John Abercrombie, Andy Milnes DAPP Theory, Eivind Opsviks Overseas, Tyshawn Soreys Obliquity, Vic Juris Quartet and The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. He has received 2 Outstanding Performance Awards and 2004 Rising Star Jazz Artist from Down Beat Magazine along with a scholarship to attend The Manhattan School of Music (1998) and the Zoot Simms Award to attend New School University (2002). In 2002, he was a semifinalist in the Thelonious Monk Saxophone Competition and in 2005 received ASCAPs Young Composers Award and the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming hosted by John Schaefer of WNYC radio.
