Bio
.. Born in the "deep south" of the Netherlands Rob (alias Madmans Blues) set “foot” on the ground. At the age of 7 he started with classic music lessons and played percussion and various wind-instruments ending up playing the oboe for ten years. He grew up listening to his parents 60s/70s record collection, which became his closest companion for many years. Contiguously he discovered blues, folk and other roots music and he started playing the bluesharp. At 14, his father bought him his first acoustic guitar. Soon after, influenced by the early 90s rock bands, he got himself an electric guitar plus amplifier and almost immediately he was cutting his teeth as a musician playing gigs. Playing all sorts of instruments in all kind of bands he became a sort of multi-instrumentalist. In his 20s, being eager to learn more about music, he started a contract study at a conservatory in Utrecht (NL) apart from his day job. During this time he learned how to play more instruments like the piano and he also started using his vocals. In 2004 he was permitted to study the fulltime BA Hons degree at the prestigious Academy for Contemporary Music in Guildford (London, UK) after a strong selection on an audition for vocals. By that time he realized that his voice was another instrument he could use quiet fine. In the end he chooses to stay in the Netherlands and switches over from guitar to vocals as his main instrument. In June 2010 he graduated at the Conservatory on an outstanding level on vocals. .. In 2006 he formed his own rockband called Phoenix Red playing his own songs. Up to 2008 he played in several venues as "De Melkweg" Amsterdam, "013"Tilburg, "Mezz" Breda, "W2" Den Bosch and in January 2008 they where the support act for Dutch singer Ellen ten Damme. In March 2008 Phoenix Red took a sabbatical. Since august 2008 he formed a combo playing Jazz/Blues/Pop covers with a bunch of other great musicians. To name some persons he worked with or learned from up to this moment are; Kristina Fuchs, Adjan Emmen, Paul Gyles, Jeroen Manuhutu. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. -
