Biography Sabrina Starke
Is it Jazz, R&B, Folk, Neo Soul or a singer/songwriter? The answer is no, or also yes, it is Sabrina Starke. She is indeed all these things at the same time. It goes from Billie Holiday to Tracey Chapman together with some Randy Crawford and back. What you see is a young woman with a voice that is described by many as “timeless”. On stage she creates a show that makes you think back of "the good old days" of rhythm and blues.
She just recently found here style, she says. She writes her songs on guitar, using her life and life in general as an inspiration for her song writing.
She performs acoustic, but also does band shows. In 2006 she won the competition Talent Night. That brought her all the way to the legendary Apollo Theatre in New York. Where all the big Soul and Jazz artist like Billie Holiday, Sam Cooke and James Brown performed. She performed at the Amateur Night at the Apollo. Soon after that a numerous of successful performances followed like at: North Sea Jazz Around Town, Uitmarkt, Crimejazz and Rotterdam festivals.
December 2006 she became 2nd in the finals of the Grolsch Grote Prijs van NL in the category singer/songwriter. January 2007 she was selected by Ministry of OCW for the project “Getalenteerd”. This is a project to promote new talents with the goal to inspire other youths.
In February 2007 she appeared on the new Unsigned CD of the National Pop Institute called “The Mighty 8”. For this compilation she worked with the production team Equipe the Clochard, leadsinger Llewy is Sel and bass player Bart Burdell from “Relax”. From January 2007 till May she made a tour with the mighty 8, performing at several pop venues around the Netherlands. For now, she’s preparing for her debut album.
